The Total Man Program for Troubled Teens - Educational Component

Academic Program. Many academic problems are caused by the inability of the traditional school system to provide individualized student instruction. Students are often herded along with the rest of their class regardless of whether they have obtained a thorough understanding of their assigned material. As a result, a faulty foundation is often laid that can affect the student's long-term academic development. On the other end, many students who would otherwise be able to advance ahead of their class are held back and forced to complete assignments that are below their intellectual ability.

To address these problems, we begin with diagnostic testing to identify the correct placement level for our students. Once a student's placement level is determined, he is required to work at that level and not allowed to advance until he has completely grasped the material. Evening study hall sessions provide one-on-one tutoring to help students recover lost academic credits. This method has proven effective to address problems and bring students up to their chronological grade level. If a student is gifted in certain areas, he is allowed to advance in those areas at his own pace. This individualized instruction method allows us to do what all schools should - help each individual student achieve his highest academic potential.

Accendo Academy uses the Accelerated Christian Education academic curriculum and strives to keep a low student-teacher ratio. Our teachers have more than a decade of experience with the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum and are able to effectively identify and address student needs. We offer honors, college preparatory, general, and vocational diplomas. Accreditation is available through the Commission in International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA) and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Vocational Track. At Accendo, we recognize that academic achievement is only one measure of success. For various reasons, some students choose (with parental consent) to pursue a vocational track, seeking a G.E.D. and job skills instead of a diploma. To assist these students, Accendo Christian Academy provides a G.E.D. preparation program. We have also built relationships with the Job Corps and various employers in the community, and have proven successful in helping many students develop real-world job skills and secure employment following their stay with us.
